revolution per second | Show source | revolution/s | Show source | - | Revolutions per second. See RPM unit for more. | Show source |
revolution per minute | Show source | RPM | Show source | - | Revolutions per minute. The unit determines the number of turns (i.e. by 360 degrees) performed during one minute. It's a unit of rotational speed or the frequency of rotation around a selected axis. Used for example to measure speed of media under the read head e.g. gramophone disks rotates at speed 16 2⁄3, 33 1⁄3, 45 or 78 RPM. | Show source |
Some facts#
- Frequency is physical quantity defining number of cycles (events occurring periodically) per time unit.
- The basic frequency unit in SI system is one Hz (hertz). One hertz corresponds to the frequency of one cycle per second:
- Frequency is usually indicated by a lower case letter f or greek letter (nu).
- To calculate the frequency of an event directly from the definition, use the following formula:
where:
- f - frequency,
- n - number of recorded events (cycles),
- t - measurement time.
- f - frequency,
- We can find frequency in many everyday areas of life, e.g.
- The musical note of "A" is used as a standard for tuning musical instrument. It's frequency is 440 Hz. In terms of music, the lower frequency means "lower pitch".
- The processor i5 2450M is available in versions clocked with frequencies from 2.5 to 3,1 GHz,
- the plates in most contemporary hard drives make 5400 revolutions per minute (5400 RPM),
- long play vinyl record (LP) should be played at 33 1/2 revolutions per minut (RPM),
- program 1 of Polish Radio can be listened in Poland and in neighboring countries on longwave (LW) at frequency 225 kHz,
- wifi networks use electromagnetic waves with 2,4 GHz or 5 GHz frequency,
- CD-AUDIO format uses sample rating of 44,1 kHz,
- the frequency of alternating current (AC) is 50 or 60 Hz depending on the region,
- etc.
- The musical note of "A" is used as a standard for tuning musical instrument. It's frequency is 440 Hz. In terms of music, the lower frequency means "lower pitch".
How to convert#
- Enter the number to field "value" - enter the NUMBER only, no other words, symbols or unit names. You can use dot (.) or comma (,) to enter fractions.
Examples:- 1000000
- 123,23
- 999.99999
- Find and select your starting unit in field "unit". Some unit calculators have huge number of different units to select from - it's just how complicated our world is...
- And... you got the result in the table below. You'll find several results for many different units - we show you all results we know at once. Just find the one you're looking for.
