Some facts#
- There are many paper size standards, varying depending on application and region.
- Examples of existing standards are:
- ISO 216 standard - defines the so-called A serie (A0, A1, A2, A3, ...) and B serie (B0, B1, B2, B3, ...), which are created by successively dividing the previous format into two equal parts. Notebooks in A4 (210 × 297 mm) and A5 (148 × 210) are widely known in Europe. Sometimes these formats are called net formats because they can be obtained by trimming slightly larger formats of the RA or SRA series (so-called gross formats),
- ISO217 standard - adds the series RA (raw format A) and SRA (supplementary raw format A), so-called gross formats. These formats are large enough to be able to obtain the net formats after trimming,
- ISO269 standard - introduces a C serie (C0, C1, C2, C3, ...) used for envelopes,
- ANSI / ASME Y14.1 standards - a collection of different formats used in the United States,
- Arch standard - a series of formats (Arch A, Arch B, Arch C, ...) intended for architectural applications,
- CAN 2-9.60M standard - a series of Canadian formats (P1, P2, P3, P4, ...) intended for correspondence (P stands for paper sizes for correspondence),
- JIS standard - set of formats used in Japan (B0, B1, B2, B3, ...),
- etc.
