Some facts

  • The enthalpy of vaporization tells us how much energy should be added (i.e. amount of the work that should be done) to move one mole of substance from the liquid state into gas state without changing the pressure and temperature.
    ΔHvap.=HgasHliquid\Delta H_{vap.} = H_{gas} - H_{liquid}
    where:
    • ΔHvap.\Delta H_{vap.} - enthalpy of vaporization,
    • HgasH_{gas} - enthalpy of formation in gas state,
    • HliquidH_{liquid} - enthalpy of formation in liquid state.
  • Basic unit of enthalpy of vaporization in SI system is joul per mole:
    Jmol\frac{J}{mol}
