# Some facts#

• SI prefixes are systematic way to write "very big" or "very small" numbers. For example we can use kilo prefix and say one kilo-gram (1kg) instead of saying 1000 grams (1000g). In similar way we can create other units like GHz (giga-herz), MV (mega-volt), cm (centi-metre) etc. Each SI prefix has related factor, which it replaces.
• SI prefixes are created over metric system. It means that base factor is 10 and its powers. However, after big growth of digital technology, it turned out that it's sometimes useful to use factors based on binary system. That is the reason why alternative system was created - binary prefixes. Binary prefixes are specially popular in computer science.
